The Journey of Hosanna Methodist Church (HMC)

Hosur, once a modest industrial town on the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border, had limited worship spaces for Christians. With growing industrialization in the 1980s, many believers moved in for work, increasing the need for churches. In 1987, the Indian Evangelical Mission set up a training center in nearby Mugallapalli. From this mission, Mr. Jeypaul Sitther began a weekly home Bible study, supported monthly by Prof. Madan Singh and later carried forward by Mr. Johnny Desai and others from O.T.I.

As more families—many from other regions—joined, there emerged a need for English worship services. The fellowship reached out to Rev. C.A. Benjamin of Indiranagar Methodist Church and the Methodist Church Diocese for support. After three years of prayer and perseverance, the group was officially inducted into the Methodist Church of India in 2001.

Worship began in Hotel Ashok, where the cashier's table served as the altar. Eminent speakers, brought weekly by founding member Mr. Paul Samuel, inspired the growing fellowship. Soon, the service shifted to St. Joseph’s ITI, and later to “Elim,” a home offered by Mr. Ravikumar Edwin. With support from Jayanagar Methodist Church, a temporary structure was built, and Sunday services continued. Rev. Paneerselvam Williams became the first presbyter in 2002, and the church was named Hosanna Methodist Church.

In 2007, HMC acquired 21 cents of land with help from Koramangala Methodist Church. After years of struggle to secure building permissions and explore alternate locations, a breakthrough came in late 2015. Indiranagar Methodist Church offered their dismantled structure, and under the leadership of Rev. Mathew George, construction began. The church received immense support—from architects, builders, contractors, and Methodist churches across Bangalore. The HMC congregation gave generously in time, effort, and resources.

On April 18, 2016, the new sanctuary was inaugurated, a symbol of faith and unity. Remarkably, Rev. Mathew George, who was pastor when the land was first purchased, also led the congregation when the sanctuary opened.

Today, HMC stands as a testimony to God's faithfulness and the unwavering commitment of a few who followed His call with obedience and passion.
